Mount Mee Wedding – Ben and Jess

Ben and Jess’s Mount Mee Wedding was a lovely country affair. The day was nothing but perfection.

Their wedding took place at Ben’s family property, a stunning location to say the least. Surrounded by breath taken views that set the tone to a memorable elegant country wedding.

Jess shares with us a little of their story and insight on how the biggest day of their lives came together.

Ben and I knew of each other in high school, we had many mutual friends, but being in different grades we didn’t really have anything to do with each other. It wasn’t until after high school when we were out with friends that we officially met and got to know each other.

Ben originally wanted to propose at 1770, but I didn’t feel like going there that day because I wanted to clean the floors, haha.

After insisting we go out for the day I eventually agreed to go to Tannum Sands which is close to us in Gladstone.

So instead he proposed at Tannum Sands beach that afternoon, sorry Ben!

We both wanted a relaxed wedding that was light-hearted, fun and personalised to us. We wanted to keep the styling and colour palette simple and not too overwhelming or busy.

We chose Ben’s parent’s property because it felt meaningful to get married at a place that we call home and is special to us… and it is a beautiful location.

We wrote all our own vows so they were meaningful and unique for each other, which was pretty special. My dad also created the arbour for us which was sweet.

The bridesmaid dresses were by Joanna August. I wanted all the girls to be comfortable in what they were wearing, so I chose a colour and asked them all to pick a style that they loved and would feel comfortable in. I love how the different styles looked together.

My dress was by Anna Campbell – I loved the vintage feel it had and it was so comfortable to wear all day. It took only 30minutes of wedding dress shopping to decide on my dress! My veil was my great grandmother’s veil which she wore for her wedding in 1927, so it was very pretty special to be able to wear it. I kept my jewellery simple as the dress had lots of embellishment – stud earrings that matched the bridesmaids, and my late grandmother’s pearls around my wrist – she was very special, and it meant a lot to have a part of her with me.

Ben’s suit was from Roger David – we spent a LOT more time searching for suits than we did my wedding dress haha

We had a wonderful day, and would do it all over again in a heartbeat if we could!

My photography advice is to relax and trust Adriana’s guidance 100%. We also had an engagement shoot, it definitely helped us to feel comfortable in front of a camera.

Our reception was great fun! It felt relaxed and high spirited, the food was amazing and the musician played a perfect mix of relaxed and upbeat music. Having a marquee and organising the wedding ourselves allowed us to make the whole wedding a reflection of who we are, from location to styling, food and music, which made the whole day really comfortable and homey.

I had also made a photo book of all our guests’ wedding photos which was so much fun for everyone to look though and reminisce or have a giggle.

We had seen photos of Tome cafe’s cakes and just thought they looked delicious! They also look pretty and rustic which suited our style of wedding. We also wanted something different from fruit cake or mud cake, so we went for alternating layers of Salted Caramel and Coconut Pistachio cake.

However if you leave them in the hot sun as we did, it will turn into the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Mount Mee weddingOur floral arrangements were a mix of native Australian flowers, cottage roses and sweet pea with lush draping foliage to tone in with the earthy/country location. Mount Mee wedding

We received many compliments on how personalised our Mount Mee wedding was. Everything we had at our wedding was chosen because it reflected who we are and was meaningful to us, which made our wedding comfortable and fun for everyone. We also thought back on weddings we had been too and remembered the things that we really enjoyed – the type of music, the food, the ceremony structure etc.
